Stepping into the field of translation was a wonderful event that took my life in a unique direction. It allowed me to find myself,
increased my positivity, and most importantly, I got a great opportunity to represent my love for my mother-tongue. For me, this business is not just a means of livelihood but also a hobby. It is my clear opinion
that learning through vernacular medium has given me the opportunity to enjoy my academic time. Due to love for reading, I have had read many books in Marathi, English and
Hindi since childhood. Hence, I have a good command over these three languages. But maybe because it
is a mother-tongue or maybe it is the richest
language I have ever seen, I have a special affection for Marathi and it is an essential part of my life. One of the things
that always bothers me is misspellings and grammatical errors.
I think, since
my early childhood, I must have gotten into
this habit of checking
whether text being read by me is grammatically
correct and if it is not, I try my best to correct it. In fact, If I find grammatical errors while reading in any language, I loathe it. Well, on this background when I got the opportunity to work as a translator, I
always tried to get full advantage of it. The process of translating is not
just a change of language, it is an art & other sub-arts must be
mastered to learn this art. The first is reading, the second
is proper pronunciation, and third is the thorough study of the source and
target language (mainly grammatical). You cannot become a good translator without mastering these three
skills.
I try to get to the core of the text in the source
language when translating. To understand what the original author intended, one
has to think through his point of view. His feelings have to be understood. All this
process enriches both the thoughts and knowledge of a bookworm like me. Only by
studying into depth we can understand the essence of the text in
other language and represent it in our own language and most importantly in our
own words. I enjoy doing all this. There is always something new to learn.
Working in the field of translation, you get do a lot
of creativity and innovation simultaneously & we can experience the pleasure of creating something beautiful.
